Real Property and Personal Property Defined

Real property includes the land, anything permanently attached to it (improvements, fixtures), anything appurtenant to it (easements, water rights, mineral rights), and the bundle of rights of ownership. Personal property (also called chattels or personalty) is everything else: movable items not permanently attached. The key distinction matters because real property transfers by DEED and personal property transfers by BILL OF SALE.
