Real vs. Personal Property
Real property includes land, anything permanently affixed to the land (buildings, fixtures), anything appurtenant to the land (easements, water rights), and the bundle of rights associated with ownership. Personal property (also called chattels or personalty) is everything else: movable items not permanently attached. A key distinction: real property transfers by deed; personal property transfers by bill of sale.
